Red Oak warren is located in a wildlife preserve in Nevada. While visits from hunters and other man are not uncommon, Frith blessed the rabbits of Red Oak with El-ahrairah's cunning attribute. They know how to outsmart, disarm, and in some cases, use man's traps to their advantage.
The warren is located in a meadow on the outskirts of a lush pine and fir tree forest, Elmwood, landmarked by a single red oak in which the warren received its name. The nearest bodies of water are three creeks, loosely connected to two rivers that divide the land into three segments. Red Oak is settled in the middle segment. At the base of the red oak is the main underground gathering place, named Longburrow, in which rabbits gather to share stories, news, and socialize. Further underground is a system of tunnels and smaller burrows, each assigned their own purpose. The burrows closest to Longburrow belong to the rabbits of high ranks including the Chief, the Seer, and Captains and their Lieutenants. Other ranks include Owsla, the defenders of the warren, Diggers, those that add onto the warren, Marli, does and nursing rabbits with kittens, and Outskirters, young rabbits that are too old to be kittens but too young to have enough experience to be placed in a rank. The deeper the burrows go, the lower the ranks of the rabbits. But the safer, more protected they are as well. Common predators aside from Man include foxes, badgers, weasels and stoats, feral cats, dogs, hawks, owls, and adders. Other landmarks include Frith's Glade, a portion of the river that glistens when Frith shines over the hills in the East. This area is a common spot for silflay, though silflay can take place anywhere in the field. South is a lone pine, a place littered with bolt holes, which provides a quick escape for any rabbits caught at Hunter's Post, the most common place for Man to be, as well as traps. Pine's Trail is a slender creek that connects to a pond at one end and a river at the other, West of the warren. |
